First entry of Australian Abalone into Fuzhou, China - Fishing Investment and Management [FIM]

Jan 01, 2015

At about 10 am on 3 December 2014, after 20 hours of “air travel”, 530 kilograms of Australian chilled Abalone arrived in Changle Airport, Fuzhou City, Fujian Province, China. At about 5 pm on the same day, the consignment of Abalone was put on the shelf of Yonghui Supermarket in Fuzhou. It was the first trade outcome after a strengthened exchange of ties between the province and the state of Tasmania last month.

When the consignment landed, the airport local inspection and quarantine officials, who had been waiting for the consignment, started the onsite inspection. It only took 15 minutes to process the inspection. LI Xuemu, Director of the Airport CIQ (Inspection and Quarantine) said that Fuzhou Airport belongs to the first group of designated import port for chilled seafood in China approved by the central government in September 2014. It can provide the service of 24-hour Customs clearance, to increase the freshness of seafood, and lower transport costs. With the China-Australia FTA’s entry into force, the varieties and quantities of import by Fuzhou Port from Australia will greatly be increased.
